I had four teeth extracted when I got my braces, but they did it in two seperate appointments. The first appointment was bad but the second appointment I knew what to expect and it wasn't as bad. Don't get me wrong, getting teeth pulled is no picnic but they used Novocain. Maybe they would use some nitrous oxide on you that would help you relax. As far as getting the braces themselves on, I don't think it was that bad. The most discomfort I had was from my lips being stretched out. I got them when I was a senior in high school. They were on two and a half years. The more cooperative you are with the orthodontist, like wearing the rubber bands when you are supposed to, the less time you'll be wearing the braces.

You'll be fine. My brothers and I all had braces. So did all my nieces and nephews. I had to have four teeth out because my teeth were so crowded.
Six years is a really long time, most folks don't wear braces nearly that long.
There will be discomfot, but not usually more than over the counter meds will take care of. I never took anything. It's totally worth it and you'll have a really beautiful smile when you're done. It's really not that big of a deal, it just looks that way from the end of it that you're at right now.
Be sure to tell your dentist you are very sensitive and a little fearful. They've dealt with that before and will be able to help you.
Best wishes!

I had braces for 2 years 13-15, it does not hurt when they put them on, they extracted a total of 5 teeth, it did not hurt at all, the only time my teeth hurt a little is when they were adjusting the braces, but it is not like a pain that you can't stand, you get used to it, my teeth are straight now, they were horrible bfr the braces so it was all worth it, try it, you won't regret it after they take them out and you see what a beautiful smile you'll have, good luck making the Right choice!

I had braces for about 3 years and it was totally worth it. It is painful and takes a little getting used to it, but if you have a good orthodontist and listen to him/her as a patient, you will be rewarded with a beautiful-looking set of teeth. It is painful at first and every time your wires are changed for a couple of days afterward.
There are a lot of appliances used in orthodontics like braces, headgear, expanders, rubber bands, etc. These take some getting used to and will be painful at times. But if you wear these appliances regularly, you will get used to it and it will not hurt at all.
Regarding your fear of braces, it's not that bad. I know from my own personal experience. Every person is different when it comes to braces - every individual needs different treatment and you should talk to an orthodontist about your options and your fears. Your life will not change dramatically after you get braces nor should it. You will rewarded with straight teeth when it's all over - better eating, breathing, and plenty of compliments! Regarding your dad, few people have braces for 6 years and, don't worry, no one wears braces at school :-)

I am 24 years old & I just had to get braces in July. If you take 2 ibuprofen before your appointment & then take 2 after the appointment you should be ok. That's what I did & it did not hurt at all. I did ache the next day. You can also rinse with warm salt water. The dentist may give you floride to brush with at night & some toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
They will rub some stuff on your gums & then give you a shot for each tooth they pull. You won't hurt. DON'T drink out of a straw after you have those teeth pulled because it will cause a dry socket & I have heard that that does hurt.
I had to get my Wisdom teeth taken out. That is the WORST pain next to child birth & I have 4 kids that I had Natural with no pain medicine.
You have to go in to the dentist every month & they change the little rubber bands that go around each brace on each tooth. The fun part is that you can change the colors of the rubber bands each time!!
Don't be scarred. You will be ok.
Just remember that it's well worth it.
Remember that being Beautiful hurts sometimes.

Have your parents schedule a consultation first. The orthodontist will tell you everything you need to know. Explain your situation and I'm sure they will ease your fears. And really, there's nothing to fear regarding braces. Sure, there is some pain and discomfort, but you will adjust very quickly. By the way, I had overcrowding and did not have any teeth removed. Once you have braces and see how quickly your teeth move, you will have no regrets. Don't put it off any longer - good luck!

Well - the positive is that braces are sexy - so that's a major plus, regardless of the pain involved.
I had to have several teeth removed, and my nephew is going to have a boatload removed - his mouth is so crowded that he can't even get in some of his 'adult' teeth.
The pain is brief - but its definitely not comfortable. Even with novacaine you can feel the pressure, and frankly its pretty scary.
You sound like you're a pretty together person, so I think you'll be ok - its only for a few minutes, and you really seem strong enough to handle it.
And its worth it....

I had braces for a year, (Luckily only a year was supposed to be three!) so long as your teeth are all adult they wont be pulling many, they spacers which gradually pull apart the teeth will be put in to respace them. Braces dont really hurt and your gums will be fine. The braces only hurt slightly at two times: the first day or so, and wire changes for a few hours. other than that no pain! its really not the bad!

Hi, o have braces right now and they suck. but if you really want them i think u should try to find a job. Depending on where u live kids ages of 14 have trouble with finding them. if you live near a corn feild then try corn de tassleing. ull get paid 2000 if u work all summer. then ur half way there. if your mom can afford 2000 then u can get them if not, try selling some stuff you dont use anymore. And as for your letter there isnt really anything u can do. just tell them the goverment ( or who ever they are) that they want to stop bullying in (whereever you live) and then tell them your getting bullied by people at school. if they give you braces then the school cant bully u anymore.

I had braces and when they put them on it only took a couple weeks to get use to. As for the pain, you can get laughing gas which is a gas, they put a mask on your face and after a few minutes they can work on your teeth without pain. It's better than the shot but the shot only hurts for a second and then it's gone. You will be fine.
