The only possible candidate is fig fruit.
There are fig trees everywhere in Greece.
The fruit is green (black figs are also common) and the inside has red (and black seeds).
(Pomegranate is always red. It is also very common in Greece and has a strong mythological background)

Just a guess... a pomegranate? The outside flesh can be green, while the inner seeds are a deep crimson red and very yummy.
