Since my parents separated it appears that it's been an us and them issue my brothers live with my mum and I'm married and my dad is remarried. I moved into a new home 6 mths ago after renting out my other one around the corner and live about 45 mins from my family, not once have they visited or helped me move but I always did for them and helped them with garage sales etc, my dad helped hes visited several times. Ive just become shunned by my mums side and have no idea what I have done wrong it's my brothers birthday and I found out from my dad I hadnt been invited out for dinner with them to celebrate dad couldnt get a straight answer from my brother why my hubby and i wernt invited, i dont feeling calling them to find out what i have done and find it really hard to work out why. My mums side only seem caring when I go to see them If ive felt left out b4 i have told them and i just get something like 'don't be stupid we love you'. I dont get it!!

If you want them to help with an activity be specific in your needs and say "I would really like help with . . . . " or invite them over just for dessert or cards, in other words most people who are inconsiderate are just clueless. You be the super communicator and without accusing just express what you expect from a relationship. Meanwhile spend the majority of your energy on your new family and making sure it doesn't end up in a mess for your kids.

Ask again, and again, and again - and if you get a "don't be stupid we love you" response, tell them that is not love.
