I was an exchange student in Japan. I found out that the teacher whose class I was visiting just had his mother die. I'm supposed to send him a card in Japanese, but I don't know what to write.
Can anyone help me?

I have been studying Japanese since I was 6. I can handle the kanji by myself with sufficient accuracy. If someone could give me traditional expressions in romanji, I would be very grateful.

My suggestion to you is you'd write in English. The language used in this type of writing in Japan is extremely traditional and it would look very artificial coming from non-native speaker. Besides, I have no way of telling you how to write in Kanji (which you will have to use) using this type of communication.
I am a native speaker (of Japanese) and this is not what you asked, but is the best I can do in helping you.

"Goshuushousama desu" is a common phrase for expressing condolences.
