while I dont really care for Stewart, he deserved more recognition then 11th place. He dominated the chase and under the "old" points system would have finished 4th.
I still think the whole chase thing really sucks and the ratings are proving that, this year was a race between 2 guys that fans either hate or don't care for.
A driver wins championships by consistancy over 36 races, not how he performs in 10.
When Kurt Busch won the championship he had a 290+ point defecit erased. Calculating the points through the chase he would have finished 230+ points out of first.
Johnson would have won this year no matter which system they used, As did Stewart last year (by far).

There was nothing unfair about it. He just didn't put together enough good finishes to make the Chase. What he did do after he didn't make the Chase was that he make a joke of the point system. If he had qualified for the Chase, He would have won the Cup. And under the old point system, he would have finished fourth as he scored more points in the last ten races than any other driver. I have not been a fan of Tony Stewart because I have often thought that his temper and attitude sucked. However, during the last half of this season, he has actually been a likable guy. Even after the Richmond race when he didn't qualify for the Chase and the reporters were sticking microphones in his face, he kept his cool and I was shocked. Now I am finding it hard to not be a fan of his.

i do no longer think of that the Chase Drivers are letting him win in any respect. i'm a Tony Stewart fan and that i'm happy that he's doing so nicely even nonetheless he's out of the Chase. numerous of the Chase drivers have had undesirable runs at numerous tracks during the Chase. THis previous weekend a minimum of 5 of them had issues from wrecking to engine failure. the sorrowful element is they do no longer desire different drivers to be ahead of them or to win. there have been numerous events the place specific Chase drivers have actually demanded non-Chase drivers to enable them to via because of the mere fact that they have got been in the Chase. Tony Stewart is the variety of driving force which will choose for the win no count what. If he's in the Chase or no longer he's striving to get that #20 homestead Depot Chevy into VIctory land each week alongside with the different drivers on the music.

I truely think it was a reality check for him. He came out at the beginning of the season whining about bump drafting, And then goes a nails Kenseth at the 500. He need to see that he needs to preform and not talk all big and bad. I was impressed how he rack up all those points during the last ten races. He will be a huge contender next year I am a die hard johnson fan and have very little respect for him. But we all can agree, if it was stewart vs harvick for the cup, Stewart by a lot.

I'm not a Tony Stewart fan, but I think he just had a run of bad luck for a while. Look who well he did after the cut-off. Your dad shouldn't worry, I'm sure he'll make the Chase next year. He is one of the better drivers.

Being a fan, I was disappointed of course, but more than anything it illustrates the fallacy of the Chase.
NASCAR wanted to have the last 10 races run in more of a "playoff" system to gin up interest. What they fail to realize is that in other sports that do have playoffs, teams not it them, DO NOT COMPETE!!
If they're going to keep it, at least make the defending champion an automatic part of it, no matter who it may be.

It sucked. Winning needs to be rewarded a *lot* more. As a friend of mine said, "Consistency don't put butts in bleachers." Two drivers, Mark Martin and Jeff Burton, got locked in the top ten without winning a single race!
And I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a Smoke fan. :-)
On the bright side, we saw that Tony was very, very, very motivated to prove himself, and he will be in '07, too!

because brian france and the other "geniuses" at NASCAR decreed that this formula is the one on which we base a "champion", this is what it is. it is totally and completely wrong. take a look at this for example....a few years ago when kurt busch "won" the title, the actual winner of the title was none other than jeff gordon (based on the "old" formula). so i have severe doubts as to the total validity of this so called "chase for the cup". i think its totally bogus in all respects.
