It is normal for a cough to hang on for more than 4 weeks. It is really common. My doctor has a graph that shows how long the symptoms of the common cold will last. The cough stays the longest. If your throat really hurts and doesn't get better in a day or two, go get a strep test.

I would get a bad cough every winter about this time, and I found out that the aspartame in diet soda was messing me up. I stopped drinking diet coke and the coughing went away.

I haven't been sick since. Aspartame (also known as neotame or acesulfide-k or acesulfide-potassium) is bad stuff. Real poison.

Its common for a cough to hang on for while. I agree you should go back and get a strep test. In the meantime, go to your local drugstore and buy Mucinex (there are several different kinds) be sure you get the cough suppresent to give you some relief. It really does work well. Good luck and eat some chicken broth or soup!!!!
