A sports car? You want your dad to buy you a car like that? Do you know the insurance will probably be as much as you pay in total expenses for the civic? Come on, if you don't have the money to buy it, and don't want to earn it, you don't deserve to have it. If you were really interested in studying, you wouldn't be asking for a flashy car to cruise in.

I would not think you are gonna win this argument.

The Mustang will be insanely expensive to insure.

Your attitude towards work also will not give him a warm fuzzy feeling when it comes time to stroke the check for this car (while work does indeed suck, keep these thought to yourself). I would not remind your father how much he makes, trust me, he knows (after expenses, probably a lot less than you think). This will only make you seem like an ungrateful mooch/whiner.

If your current car looks like crap and has not been cleaned in years, what makes him think you will do anything to take care of this new car?

He was once your age too, so he knows damn well you will drive the Mustang like you stole it. If you already have accidents and tickets with a car that can barely manage the speed limit, you will surely get them with this beast.

Drop the studying versus a part time job defense, most parents are aware of the fact that a part time job actually makes your prioritize your time better and probably get better grades.

$8000 is definitely a nice gift, but you better come up with a better way to make your father think you deserve it. Take care of your car, do something without being told 5 times (take out trash, mow lawn, clean up sty of a room), keep that decent paying job, keep the grades up even if you are accepted to a college, and maybe keep the car desires a little more subtle than hammering him on it the second he walks in the door.

You could even offer to pay part of it, but he will probably see through that scam. You don't want to have to work 20+ hrs a week to pay for car you may not even be able to bring to campus freshman year. If you can actually pull off some good grades freshman year, you will have some more ammo as well. Pull in a 1.0 GPA and almost get kicked out of school, and you can probably kiss the Civic goodbye as well.

You're right, it is a waste of time to work at a job for $7.50/hr instead of studying. Maybe if you studied more, you would make more than $7.50/hr at some point in the future.

It's so nice to hear that you think $8000 is a reasonable amount of money to spend on a "decent" graduation present.

Your dad has a great paying job because he worked for it. He didn't start out making the big bucks and when you came along junior, it didn't get any easier.

Just think, there are other kids out there that have to support themselves on whatever it is they can make at their jobs. Some don't have a roof over their heads, meals on the table, etc.

You also have to be honest - you're a kid getting a Mustang GT. Are you going to spend your free time at the library studying or cruising chicks with your nice wheels?

it particularly is an incredible theory, yet no longer many seniors in extreme college have variety new autos. I graduated final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and offered a automobile for $one thousand and it runs effective. With $5000 you will have a large variety of sturdy techniques. i don't understand how long you're making plans on it taking to enhance $5000 yet it particularly is a respectable quantity of money and it could take a jointly as...in case you may get them to purchase you a clean automobile, extra skill to you. If no longer, then don't be too disillusioned. you will merely be like the ninety 9% of the inhabitants whose dad and mom did no longer purchase them a clean automobile jointly as they are in extreme college. So...if I have been you i'd in all hazard enhance 3k and purchase myself a automobile. then you definitely do no longer could experience indebted to them and it will help you relish it extra, besides as be extra to blame with it. solid luck with even though you establish.

Have you checked what insurance would be for that car?
I'll bet it is triple what you pay now.
It would get much less gas mileage, etc.
Have you REALLY thought it through?
Or are you just going on your "I want it & I want it NOW" instinct?
I studied and worked 50 hours a week all the way through college, (and still stayed on the Deans List) what's your excuse?

Do you deserve this? Are you a responsible driver? What will you do to earn this privilege? Prove to your father and yourself that you are responsible and you will see things clearer. You don't want a mustang you just want to be cool. And to be cool you don't need a Mustang. You need... ask your father.

Just talk to him about it, take pictures, and tell how much you would appreciate it. Also, make some things to come up WRONG on the civic. Tear up somethin on it & get on the side of the road & Call him & tell him that you have broken Down, and need his help. That will give him a BIG hint that you really need this car.
