I am making a "Thanksgiving Day" dinner for all my friends since we were all with our familys for the actual day. I bought a frozen 14 pound turkey yesterday and left it in the fridge for a whole day. It doesn't seem to be thawing that much so I am worried it won'te be ready by tomorrow morning when I need to start cooking it. Is there a fast way to thaw it?!? Ideas I had were putting it in cold water or maybe the microwave?

It would take a couple of days to thaw it in the fridge. Put it in a sink or bucket of cold water. If your turkey is 14 pounds the cold water method will take about 7 hours. You should change the water frequently.

To thaw turkey in cold water:

Make certain that the turkey is in a leakproof package or a zipper-sealed plastic bag. This prevents bacteria in the surrounding environment from being introduced into the food, and prevents the poultry tissues from absorving water, resulting in a watery product. Change the cold water every 30 minutes. Approximately 30 minutes per pound of turkey are required for thawing. After thawing in cold water, the turkey should be cooked immediately.

Best of luck with it.

The SAFE way to thaw is in the fridge. Ever watch how long a block of Ice takes to melt? IF you decide to thaw it in water, you need to change out the water every 30mins. Don't worry you can sleep the next day after the dinner

NO! Mistake!!! return the turkey and buy chickens. Turkeys remind me of an ostrich...., you know the bird with no purpose. Just kidding.
Fill up your sink with cold water and let it thaw in there but make sure you change the water every 15-30 mins

Put it into a large pot of cold water just before you go to bed, it will be thawed by morning, thawing it in the frig will take days and you don't want to microwave it it will start to cook before the inside has thawed.

Defrosting under cold running water is approved by the Health Dept, or microwave defrosting (which I don't recommend for a whole turkey). Yes, you could do it in 24 hours.

Make sure you have an airtight bag, put in the turkey, then fill the sink with cold water, changing the water every hour.

shove it in a sink full of cold water... bt change the water every 30 minutes. hot water causes the turkey to start to cook and it can grow bacteria and u can get sick from it.

I've learned with rachel ray that you can cut up the bird and cook it in 1 1/2 hours. cook the breast first for 30 min and add the rest fot 1 hour. on her web site you learn the proper way to cut it.
