As most of you know I got a speeding ticket the other night. I was going to make a court date and ask the judge if I could pay the ticket and take a drivers improvment class instead of the points on my license. I was wondering if before I made a court date should I go to the police station and ask to talk to the cop who gave me the ticket. Explain to him that I cannot have the points on my license but I am going to pay the ticket and take full responsiblity for it. I was going to ask the judge for a drivers improvment class instead of the points and if I made a court date if he would show up and say that would be a good idea or something. Now my question would be should I talk to the cop who gave me the ticket before I make a court date or should I just make the court date and talk to the judge by me self????

Just go to the court, tell them that you want to go to a traffic school, pay for the bail, and they will give you a form and the traffic school information. You don't need to see a judge.

Once cops give the ticket, anything that may be arranged for the punishment is out of their hands. If you're cute, talking to him may give him a smile...but, it won't do your argument any good. Take it to the county clerk and have them explain your options, or show up in court and talk to the judge.

The police officer has nothing to do with it, he makes a copy of the ticket and his department notifies the court of the ticket.

( and does your ticket not have a court date on it ???)

All uniform traffic citations have a court date assigned when you are given the ticket ?? ( in the US )

The only one that has anything to do with this, now is the judge

I would just go to court date.

Was the cop a jerk? Did he seem affable enough to approach to talk to? A friend of mine recently went to dispute her ticket and the judge just sounded off as soon as everyone was seated, "There will be NO leniency, all tickets stand!" and slammed her gavel down! But, there are plenty of judges who would knock it down or let you have an alternate to points.

Good luck!

forget the cop...when you get to the courthouse and the judge reads the charge, plead not guilty and ask to speak to the prosecutor. you can negotiate the charge there. so flash a little leg and smile at the prosecutor and you'll get a lesser charge with less points.
