I'm doing a bit of a project and asking those close to me this question:
"Would you donate money to someone in need, if you didnt know who it was going to or why?"
I was suprised to see only a few would, I think it's about being able to emphathise with the charity that makes people donate, what do you think?
I also posted this in my blog, a link to donate to my paypal fund I started to collect money for a friend in need, I only generated a few dollars. (it's typically a button but html is too long to post here)

This is a Question I'm trying to pose to a much larger group, the yahoo answers community.

At this time of year I get a generous amount of requests for donations. I use to donate to almost all of them, but after I started looking into the charities, I found that some of them were not registered with anything and I suspect the donation money was going to some greedy people in the name of Charity. That is so disgusting. Now I only donate to organizations that can prove they are for real! I know that so many many people need help and really deserve it-- I am willing to donate to as many charities as I can but only to those who are truly in need.

i love Compassion global it really is a religious (Christian) charity, despite the indisputable fact that it feeds and educates little ones in 0.33 international international places, and is amazingly efficient and useful. each and every $32 they get seems after one baby for a month. the entire address is: Compassion global Colorado Springs, CO 80997 it change into unusual to me that the address is in straight forward words 2 lines and that it doesn't have a highway or PO field, yet i recognize it continuously receives there and that it truly facilitates a large style of human beings because they inspire human beings to sponsor a particular baby once you're waiting to make a month-to-month dedication, and so i have received and written letters to the guy that i'm sponsoring; and my dad and sister have received letters from the youngsters their sponsoring -- that is an pretty magnificent employer, and besides the actual undeniable actuality that it really is technically a Christian employer, it would truly help anybody who needs it inspite of faith. the youngster I sponsor is a Muslim. His father's a sharecropper and his mom died at the same time as he change into truly youthful (he nonetheless is truly youthful). despite the indisputable fact that that is only a large employer, and that is incredible that you care, and that i'm constructive that no count number the position you donate, it would truly help your area or the international. purely please do not donate it to a campaign... they develop better funds than just about any charities and all that applicants do with that funds is insult one yet another in classified ads... except that there is truly no actual way that you'll be able to bypass incorrect because that is only a sturdy ingredient to provide in and of itself

Sorry, but most people are going to want to know about the person in need at the very least. What's their problem? How will the money raised be used to help them?
I don't think you are going to find many people willing to just hand over money to you because you are collecting it for a "needy person"
Nice try & good luck with the day job.

People are already wary of donating to charities that aren't obviously safe. It's sickening to see how many people write sob stories and honestly expect charity from complete strangers who work hard for every dollar they earn. There are so many worthy causes to give to that are legit. I still can't figure out why anyone gave you the few dollars you got!

Altruism is, if not truly dead, in its dying throes.
To give money without some guarantee that it is not going to a terrorist group bent on the destruction of your way of life is simply foolish. Charity is beginning closer and closer to home these days. And rightly so.

No - I wouldn't have to know who the person is or any particulars... I would however, like to know that the money is processed through a reputable, trustowrthy organization... IE: church, food kitchen, etc.
Be Blessed!
