I suggest just going to your local Target or KMart and getting a fairly priced one. For instance, Vidal Sasoon is at KMart and it works fabulously in well-managed hair. However, straight hair doesn;t stay stright just with a straightening iron more than a day. If you don't want the hassle of straightening your hair everyday, get it permanently straighted. It costs less than $100 dollars and last for several months!

I have had thick, wavy/curly hair for my whole life, so I know where you are coming from. You should buy a hair straightener and straighten your hair on a not-to-high heat. You want your hair to be straight, but not burnt and damaged. This should also smooth your hair and make it shinier.

My sister has VERY curly hair, and she uses the Sedu flat iron. She loves it. It looks silky smooth, and so soft! I have one to, and I love it. It doesn't damage my hair, or make it dull...I bought ours from Folica. I listed the link below... Good luck!
