She probably thinks you are a typical 16 year old and most of them cannot wait to drive at every opportunity. Why don't you like to drive? Tell you mom why.

I understand completely.I didn't want to drive either. This is a very serious situation.Being a little nervous behind the wheel is common, but being too nervous can put you and other people in danger.Let your mom know that you understand that you WILL have to drive in the future, but right now you really want the chance to get used to it.Ask her if its practice and experience shes wanting you to get.If that's why she wants you to drive so much, suggest that you designate special "trips" specifically for you to drive.Get her to drive to a specific destination (maybe somewhere that you will frequently go to when you start driving on your own) and allow you to drive back.Knowing where your going and being familiar with the area you will be driving in will help ALOT.I doubt you will get out of driving all together but if you set up a plan that will help get in the experience you will need in the future, and also helps calm your driving woe's you will both win in the long run.I wish you the best of luck!

I have the same problem, i'm 20, and i dont like driving.... i get frustrated when i'm driving and have the attention span of a 2 year old, i see a bird out the window and thats it, no more watching the road.
I think yeah just tell your mum you REALLY do not like driving, there's heapsa people that have gone their whole life without driving just because its their choice not 2. When you're older you might decide you'd like to drive... but if not then dont drive because it could be dangerous for you to drive if you dont want 2. Good luck and hope all goes well!!!

Sadly, ... soem mom's have their agenda. They want you to live their dreams... or live out their dreams in you. I have no idea what's making your mom do that, but that's unusual that a 16 yr old would not want to drive. Perhaps she is pushing you out of the nest- as in trying toy get you to grow up? I can't tell... All you can do is have patience with her, and for what's worth, try driving anyways, you never know, you might like it after a while. Or get a job and take cabs everywhere. There's an easy way to make her understand... drive around where you know cops will see you and run a stop sign, making sure you're in no danger, as in, no cars at the stop sign coming from other directions. It might help.. Good luck.

don't feel bad, I did not get my license till after I was 18. didn't really care, I had people running me around, plus I was in the process of building my first successful project car, and did not want to drive it while I was working on it
I guess you should just be honest with your mother, they will usually understand. Is there something that scares you about driving, or do you just simply not want to drive?
or do you have a bunch of people saying "will you run me here etc..." Honesty is the best means most of the time, you don't want to crash into something like someone in here suggested, not only could you get hurt, but hurting others in the process as well as causing your parent to have to pay even more in insurance.
Good luck

Geez, most parents would be jumping for joy if their teenager didn't want to drive! So, what's wrong with your mother?! Ask your doctor to write it in the form of a doctor's order. Then your mother cannot make you drive. Ask your doctor to talk to your mother directly and in person, not on the phone.
You're mature to admit it rather than to drive just because everyone else your age is doing it.

I understand if you don't like to drive, but you're at the age where it would be most practical for you to get used to it and learn to be comfortable doing it. Unless you live in NYC, you're going to be doing a lot of driving in your adulthood and it's best to get good at it early. Try driving around a lot in less trafficked areas, empty parking lots, that sort of thing, until you feel happier behind the wheel.

This is something that u will figure out at a later age... Freewill! If it is going to give u piece of mind, then dont drive. Take the grounding or what ever for disobeying, **** it!

Tell her you get very upset and could have a serious accident. No one should drive when they are emotionally upset. Innocent people get hurt and killed that way.
You may, also, want to call or email your psychiatrist for some suggestions from her/him. It would have helped if he/she would have role-played with you on this.
