I am looking for a way to give someone a gift card/certificate so that they can go to a site like expedia or yahoo travel and book a trip on any airline that meets their needs. Expedia and Yahoo dont offer it - any suggestions on how to do this?

The best way to do it is through a travel agent you go to any travel agency and buy a gift certificate for travel. they in turn give you the gift certificate with the value. When ever the person is ready they call the travel agency the agent will find them a flight and make all other arrangements if needed.

Not only did you give them a gift but you also bought them free service of not having to search for hours for the lowest fares let the specialists do that for them.

You can get a prepaid Visa card at most banks and even at some department stores. I think they even sell them at Target. I think this might be the best way to go. Most airlines will sell you gift certificates, but if there's change left over, you might not be able to redeem it depending on the airline's rules. If you buy a $300 certificate and the fare is $250, you'll never get a cash refund of the remaining $50; you'll either have to use that $50 towards another flight (if they let you, and you'll often have to book both trips at the same time) or lose it. Neither one of these is a good thing for the recipient! A prepaid Visa can be set in any amount and is accepted at all the travel sites just like a regular Visa. If the gift amount is less than the fare, the recipient can add funds to the card to bring the balance up to cover the fare, and if there's funds left over, the recipient can use that for whatever they want, anywhere that takes Visa.

Don't buy miles for people! They're too hard to redeem and the fees and prices make it a lot more expensive than the fare is worth!

Gift Certificates are a great gift. Go to www.continental.com and purchase gift certificates.

Now my gift to you is:

If you really want to know a secret then call Continental's reservation line and ask for Cool
Fares and you can get $99.00 round trip non stop tickets from Houston, Newark and Clevland to quite a few destinations. The magic word is "Cool"
Happy Holidays.

Because most people do not use gift registries except for weddings and first babies. I wouldn't dream of telling my family to put money in an account instead of thoughtfully choosing a gift for me.

No - you have to buy gift certificates from the airline.

Hawaiian Air offers them on line.

Delta requires that you go to their counter.

I think America West still has them on line.
