Reincarnation is a buddhist thought. Buddhist believe in the 4 noble truth.. which is basically about sufferring and how to get out of suffering.
1) suffering
2)cause of suffering
3) cessation of cause suffering
4) cessaton of suffering
so they believe the cycle of life, that is reincarnation and to buddhist, that is not a good thing because it means more suffering you will go through. To them, their goal is to attain enlightenment so that they could get nirvana(nothingness) which is the cessation of suffering.
I was having a discourse with my students, 15 monks from 4 temples. They are all my friends and i teach them English. So one of the monks, during the lesson somehow brought up reincarnation. They are from Thailand and from Lao. I am not from those countries but i speak those languages and I also understand their doctrines. So we were having this very interesting discourse in both English and Thai and Lao.
I went on to explain to them that long time ago, the world had a certain number of humans. Now through the many years that pass the world has grown in those numbers. So let us say that reincarnation is true, Should not the world be less in population rather than have an increased in population. Let us say that 10 percent attained nirvana, the highest state of man and become nothing, then it should becme even less and the population of man is ever increasing? So how do we explain this logic. After more dialougue in trying to find excuses and more logical explaination for this.
One monk stood up and and asked, "So why does the world population increase?"
so i went to the monk and shook his hands(we are friends so i am able to touch him and he knows i am not disrespecting him) and said, " congratualations, you finally got it. That is what i am asking all of you here for the past hour."
Then he said, " so does that mean it is not true".
i said,"i am here only to teach you how to think, but your guess is as good as mine." Then he begin to explain it to the others in a more complex way.
To answer your other question, if you believe in reincarnation
You will not carry over anything ...only your mark ...that is to say if sometimes during the funeral rites they would draw a mark on the dead person... so if they reincarnate, their past rrelatives might recognise him or her. Normally the person will lose all memories of the pass life. the second thing is Karma( that is the action of your pass life will effect how you would be in your present life... Cause and Effect)... So if you are a bad person in your previous life... you will suffer in your present life and vice versa.
Hope this helps

Reincarnation is all about an individual, spiritual self that is the real 'you' incarnating from life to life. It's not as much as something is carried over but that the spiritual 'you' takes on different bodily forms (with a new brain, new personality, etc.). This is mainly a Hindu concept.

In relation to what?
Many different spiritual paths have some take on reincarnation, and your question is very broad.
There is the Hindu religion which has a take on reincarnation, and some forms of pagan beliefs follow the wheel of life, death and rebirth as reflected in nature. Wicca also believes in this cycle.
Please be more specific and maybe someone can answer it for you.

more kids remember there past lives than older people do cause older people kind of push away supernatural and past memories, that is why infants can see ghosts and old people cannot
there is a kid that in a past life he was a pilot in the WW2. he was shot down, and avoided a neighborhood by crashing into a bridge. God thought that this was very courageous of him, so he was reincarnated as a boy in the states. the kid told his parents and they didnt believe him, so he wrote down all he remembered, his name, his plane, and other stuff. sure enough his parents researched the name and discovered that the mans name was indeed a pilot who was shot down but courageously dodge a neighborhood to kill himself by slamming into a bridge.

While we are being reincarnated we are confronted with a cleansing truth known as the luminosity that burns away our memories. Before our old self is destroyed we will have a reaction to the luminosity that will give birth to our state of mind in the next life.
Anger/Hatred = Naraka (Hell)
Greed, the desire to possess = Preta (Hungry Ghost)
Stubborness, the refusal to accept = Tiryag-Yoni (Animal)
Passion, the desire to improve, to overcome = Manusya (Human)
Fear, cold refusal = Asura (Jealous God)
Pride, the belief that you are stronger than the truth = Deva (God)
From these states of mind arise our suffering in the next life. The symptoms will decrease as we draw closer to nirvana. I hope that this has been helpful to you...

Your soul. It is your personality (and circumstances) that changes. So that your soul can grow with each life. Our personalities are supposed to bring out what we need to work on. So we can grow spiritually.
