He is a 2 year old and is fixed. He did not do this as a kitten. He not only kneads on me, but he also kneads on blankets and other cloth items. He has been doing it now for a few days and he doesn't do it when he wants to lay on me, he'll do it and then jump off.

That is called milk treading. It is done by cats who are taken away from their mothers before they are completely weaned. It's like thumb sucking in humans. It fills an emotional need and when he does it on you, it is an expression of love and trust.

Kneading is a comfort thing that cats do. This is the motion they use in the nest when they nurse on their mama. Some cats will actually grip the blanket in their teeth while they knead, as if they're holding the mama's nipple. Some will drool a little. I've had cats that have done both those things.

It's normal. Cats do it all the time and it shows that you give them comfort.

hm i find it more odd that he wasn't doing it from the time he was a kitten. cats knead as a form of relaxation and comfort also sometimes as marking territory. i've actually never heard of a cat that didn't knead. maybe since he's neutered he doesn't have the urge to spray so he's kneading instead.

Funny he didn't do it before. I've yet to see a cat or kitten not do it when they are feeling really comfy and relaxed. Mine can do it for hours just cause he's sitting on his favorite blanket at arms length from me.

Its a compliment!
He used to knead his mom....he sees you in that role now...his family. Kneading is like self-hypnosis...it relaxes...zones them out.
