Online for a wedding dress is BAD! It isn't like a pair of pants that you can just send back if they don't fit right. Your best bet is to figure out what your budget is and go to a place that specializes in wedding dresses. Don't feel embarassed either to share what your budget is for your dress. That is what those sales clerks expect. If you know how to sew, or know someone that does and you have some time until the big day then go find a wedding dress pattern you like and get the stuff to make your own dress.
That could be a special memory associated with your wedding dress aside from it being when you married your husband.

What you can do is look online for the styles that you like.Start with something like house of brides just for pictures and approximate prices. Then yuou can look for the designer on line and then find a nearby authorized retailer. It would be best if you could try on the dress first to see how it looks on you.I would not deter you from buying a drss online, but be careful.Sometimes what you get is not the dress you saw online or it can be stained or something even more horrible than that.
Good Luck!

RBKbridal has beautiful and affordable dresses, but I would suggest going to an actual bridal store so that you can not only see the fabric and details but also feel them - yet if you do not care about any of that go that website.

I took my dress to get altered today and my seamstress couldn't believe it came from eBay, I bought it from a company that made it to my measurements(needs to be altered because I've lost weight since August when I ordered it) My seamstress does almost all the dress alterations from a local wedding store and she said had I not told her she wouldn't have known. I paid under $250 for mine and a flower girl dress for my daughter my crinolinee was also in this price her dress had built in crinolin. It has tons of embroidery and bead work. It also was a design I have not ever seen here. They also can do dresses from pictures you send them and they were very fast (It took 30 days with shipping from Asia to Canada included for mine) The $250.00 included the shipping. If you email me I will find the name of the company and send it back to you I wouldn't vouch for all dress stores on eBay but, I will for this one.
*THIS COMPANY HAD A RETURN POLICY IF YOU DON"T LIKE YOUR DRESS*

Ebay. Know your measurments, and read the feedback of the seller to make sure you can trust em, and if they tell you who the dress is made by, you'll be able to judge the quality by checking out any local bridal shop. I got mine from Ebay and it was awesome, NEW, and WAY below retail!!!

I'm not sure how skilled you are with a sewing machine, but you might like to make it yourself, or else find a college student who is majoring in fashion design to make one for you. Sometimes for final projects, students are asked to make something they can actually wear, so the chance to make a wedding gown for a final exam grade would be a definate plus.

try www.theknot.com, they have all kinds of dresses on there. you can look at dresses by price, style, or designer. after you find the dress(es) you like you can look for the nearest retailer. You can also save the styles you like in your notebook.
