I adopted an 8 month old kitten and recently she has been making this crying/howling meow and chirping a lot. She has not been spayed yet (making her a vet appt. tomorrow), but she is not exhibiting any other signs of being in heat. She just had a check up 1 month ago and she was healthy- any thoughts about what may be causing this?

I don't really think she is in pain, but it is relentless! And Im starting to worry about her. I've had her in the house long enough to know this is unusual behavior for her. She is around that age for heat, but I just dont know. Thanks for all the advise and well wishes for my baby!

Cats can be distressed by boredom. They need to play with their humans. The want companionship, like every other self aware being. They need attention that is focused on them...the petting while you are watching TV just doesn't cut it for them. Toys are nice, but company is better.

Think about what cats do when they are being cats, not pets, and try to give your cat the same opportunities in your home.

And they need to be spayed.

She is about the right age and most likely ready to start courting. females go into heat a lot sooner than when the tomcat gets ready do do his thing, so unless you want a bunch of kittens around you should keep her indoors until you get her spayed. I dont believe there is anything wrong with her health.

There are some types of cats that are very vocal cats. I used to live with a cornish rex and he would cry/howl like a little baby and it was really annoying, but there was no way to fix it... the only way you can fix it is to get ride of the voice box, but i wouldnt do that to that poor little kitty. After a few months i got used to it and started calling that cat babies since he sounded like one. :) good luck

she could be in pain and in need to be spayed or even just another visit to the vet. she also could just want attention or love. or maybe she's just like my cat (younger but like my cat) i dont know what my cats problem is.. well i think its because she has kidney issues... anyways good luck
