Ok, I struggle with the same problem. Given her age, and her height; I wouldn't worry too much about it unless she is not eating at all, or if she is vomiting after she eats. Another factor to watch out for is depression. If she is for the most part healthy and is eating and not vomiting after eating or binge eating, then chances are she'll out grow this. It could be the fact that a high metabolism is causing her to be so thin. That is the case for me. I eat and eat nonstop, but still at 28 I only wiegh 102lbs and I'm 5'4". There are so many possible factors for lack of wieght in a person. What you can do as a friend is first of all find out if there is anything bothering her, is she depressed about something, encourage her to talk with a counselor at school about it. Also determine if she is doing anything out of the ordinary, like does she go to the bathroom after she does eat? Is she not eating at all? Is she communicating with other females who are anerexic or bulemic? What about using the internet, what does she look at? These are questions you need to find the answers too. Also are her parents or grandparents on the thin side? Siblings? Then once you find out what's happening, what you can do is to eat with her at lunch, make sure she eats her lunch. Eat breakfast and dinner with her too if possible. Bring her a protien shake mix or carnation instant breakfast. My doctors put me on the carnation instant breakfast along with many other high calorie meals, especially when I was pregnant with all three of my babies. Just make sure that whatever is given to your friend is not unhealthy, you do not want her to gain unhealthy weight. Most importantly, talk to your friend's parents about your concerns for her. Maybe they can help you, or maybe they need to be told of what is going on to get her the help she may need. Best wishes to you and your friend. I hope this helps you out some.
