it means.........that a smile can re-center you in your life with whatever else may be going on...it refocuses you to whats important

Its just a play on words and simply means e.g. If you are feeling hurt or alone or just sad and someone smiles at you you will start feeling OK again and you may even smile yourself. Smiling lips are like a curve line, feeling bad is like feeling uneven. So the smile helps you to feel straight again. Hope this help to explain the quote.
