My dog is always waking my family up in the middle of the night, sometimes 2 or 3 times, sometimes to go the bathroom and sometimes just to play, and we do let him out before we go to bed. My mom always gets up to let him out so he doesn't go on the floor and now its become a bad habit that he has. How can we get him to stop doing this?

We had the same problem with one of our dogs ...

Exercise him more during the day ... don't let him drink water later in the evening and he'll sleep better through the night.

Also, not sure of how your house is configured, we also put a dog door in so our dogs can go out whenever they want. If you have a fenced area, that is great for them too.

1) Make sure your dog is in a crate at night--just big enough to turn around in 2) if your dog is old enough (about 8 mos depending on breed) don't take it out whenever it cries at night--you're reinforcing bad behavior 3) Put a radio by the dog's crate 4) put the dog in the furthest corner maybe even garage so you can't hear it cry 5) give the dog lots of attention during the evening hours and exercise.

Ignore him! You don't say how old he is but he should be able to hold it through the nigh the night unless he is a young pup. When he cries and carries on ignore him. He will soon learn that his fussing doesn't get him any results and he will stop. This is what I did with my 12 week old Bichonpoo. She is now 4 months old and when I put her to bed that is it she is in bed for the night. I don't hear another sound from her until morning.
