Now when I try to open it a box comes up saying "microsoft office 2003 set up" at the top. then it says name, initials and organization, then a product number?? It says you will find this number on the back of your cd. I have no idea what this means, so I can't open up my saved documents. please help

Your computer probably came with a demo of Office 2003, and Word is the default programme, so it tries to open it with Word, which you have not activated. Go to the control panel, add/remove programmes, and remove Office 2003 if you don't have the actual programme to activate. Then Wordpad will work fine. Or, you can just open up Wordpad first, then search for and open your file.

microsoft office 2003 setup

maybe a set up from Bill

ask him and find out

or maybe get the real microsoft Word version 17.569

only costs $1357

no real alternatives

at least he and his wife are spending the money to help folks, they really are and in smart ways too, thats what is so maddening, maybe they should give a few billion to Linus Torvalds to make an affordable word processing software that works.

It sounds like someone has been trying to put software on to your computer, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite.
Perhaps you could try and find the files.
Go to
Find >Programs or Files> and then type in the name of the file (if you can remember it).
Or you could look in your C: drive using Windows Explorer or My Computer, if you like to experiment.
Nil Desperandum - I'm sure your files are still there.
Good Luck!

Instead of double-clicking on the file to open it, find it in Explorer, then right-click on it. A menu will pop up next to the filename or icon -- from that menu, choose "Open With...", then choose WordPad from the list shown.

it seems like the program it's trying to use to open your file is microsoft word....that's like the default option...to open with word pad, find your file and right click it-->open with--> choose program....look for word pad and double click it...it should open.
