Christmas is about Jesus, however most of the "traditions" is paganistic. When I used to be a witch, I celebrated winter solstice-which falls almost on the same day. To celebrate with a tree, wrapped presents, and food is the same way a pagan or wiccan celebrates winter solstice. So if someone who isn't christian is celebrating, maybe they are giving thanks to mother nature for winter. By the way, as a christian now, I celebrate christmas without the wreaths, tree, etc because it says in the bible not to entwine the paganistic traditions with God. Give thanks to God that He allowed His son to be born to save our souls!!

Actually, he isn't. Christians "borrowed" the original holiday from Pagans they had converted. Since there were many sects that still secretly celebrated the holiday, the Church (still weak at the time and barely holding on to new members) declared December 25th as Christmas or Jesus' birthday. It isn't an accident that they chose that date, as it falls fairly close to the Winter Solstice, one of the major holidays of the religions under the Pagan label.

P.S. Go ahead and hate me, but it's true.

Christmas is not about Jesus, it's like looking in a mirror and you see yourself first, then you see the back ground and the back ground becomes more interesting than look at yourself, so it's all about money, because to have a Christmas you have to have more money than Jesus, you can not buy Christmas gifts with a picture of Jesus. MONEY

Christmas was celebrated in various Pagan societies LONG before Christ was ever born. It was part of the celebrations of the Winter Solstice. Many of it's traditions come from paganism, and NOT Christianity.

My God, why does it seem that in America, Christians are so ignorant of history?

The Christmas holiday was actually originally a Pagan festival. It has since been secularized to have no specific religious meaning at all. Christians are NOT the only ones who have the right to celebrate this holiday.

Christmas has become so commercialized that they have completely left Jesus out of the picture. Very sad, they don't even acknowledge Jesus, they acknowledge Santa, as though some fat white man is going to come through the chimney and bring anything. I feel sorry for the children whose parents are not able to purchase any gifts and they are good loving children very deserving and they have no gifts. Where is the fat white man with all of the free stuff? I have taught my children it is about the birth of Christ and this is what we celebrate. God bless****

Jesus was not born on dec 25. the shepards where out in the field and that time of the year it is the cold and rainy season. Jesus died in april. nisan 14 and he was 33 1/2 years old. count six months forward and you get oct. Jesus told us to celebrate his death not his birth. since Jesus died on the passover or last supper (nisan 14) and since the passover is once a year. that is when you should celebrate it. once a year

Technically, Christmas was created by the Catholic Church when it noticed that many Christan's were participating in pagan Winter Solicits celebrations that occurred (and still occur) on December 21, close to what is now Christmas.

Back in the day families taught their children the reason we celebrate Christmas. But these days I believe people are more materialist and our children haven't been taught the real meaning and it is now all about the gifts.

No it's not strange. Christmas has become nothing more than a retail dominated holiday. Christmas means lights, trees, decorations, and presents. Rarely do you hear anything about Jesus.

Christmas is about love, the family and friends getting together, sharing present, singing songs, decorating Christmas trees, eating, and having fun. To me, Christmas has got nothing to do with Jesus.
