In my opinion: religon requires belivers to suspend reason and logic and therefor when faced with an opposing view neither reason nor logic is used. People, when the subject of "'''god"''' is brought up, are simpily so brainwashed that no evaluation of the other point of view enters their minds. The get defensive and resort to insults and irational rants...
Your thoughts on this please.

Faith requires that one stops asking questions. One of faith can reason and use logic, but only up to the point that faith allows. Once you hit the faith wall you can't move any further. Historically, societies only tend to succeed when they push that wall back.

Religion for most is a matter of the heart more than the head.It is the spirit of God within the heart in the form of unconditional love that prompts us to seek the truth. It appears most christians ,once baptized with water think this is all there is to do, and close their minds to further spiritual growth. Not realizing they must be baptized with spirit and with fire. They thus never escape the law of cause and effect,"remaining sinners". If you are inclined toward reason & logic you my want to try studing the teachings of Buddha. If you wish to better understand the teachings of jesus you may study "VEDANTA" philosophy. ; see www.stephen-knapp.com/articles_to_read.

Buddhism does just the opposite:
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it"

Read "Love your God with all your mind" by J.P. Moreland. It addresses this subject. Wisdom results when a respectful heart is united with a disciplined mind. Knowledge is the fruit of study, and knowledge is necessary for wisdom.

One of my favorite quotes pretty much sums this up,
"You can't reason someone out of a place they didn't reason themselves into"
Debating religion with a religious fanatic is just as productive as debating it with a goldfish; well, it may be a little more productive with a goldfish.

that's how i define the difference between religion and spirituality
spirituality invites you to experience things, not just blindly believe.
there is no right and wrong- only what works or what doesn't work, and that can change- evolve along with us as we evolve.
spirituality is not stagnent like religion. spirituality moves along with life. it is the marriage of divine teachings with evolution- not the negation of either.

I blame the fictitious books. It is sad that a book that is so blatantly absurd is revered and taken literally. Consequently, common sense is many times not even considered by many people.

I always try to use reason when explaining why Christianity is the only way into heaven. No other way provides a method of removing sin. Christ is the only one who can do it.

That is not true for everyone, you are making a blanket statement and putting all Christians under the same generalization. I believe you are very wrong. You can not judge everyone by some. God bless****
