If you believe in the Creation theory of origins of life, it is the chicken. The Creator made all things, including chickens, and placed them on the Earth to perpetuate their own species.
If you are an adherent to the theory of evolution, then the egg came first. Within the egg, there are chromosomal mutations that allow a chicken to emerge from the egg laid by a lower & less evolved species.

If your a creationist, then the chicken (he just up and made as is).
If your an evolutionist, then the egg (the thing that layed the egg was very much like a chicken but it was earlier evolutionary version).

The chicken leaned back against the headboard and lit a cigarette. The egg - looking rather disgusted - rolled over and said, "Well, I guess we've answered THAT question."

the egg is for breakfast and the chicken for dinner, so the egg in fact came first.
