Use a good mulch from the gardening section at a hardware or gardining store and along with a slightly diluted solution of Miracle Grow.

Also keep an eye out for parasites and spray accordingly.

Unless the roses are euphamisms for souls and the small garden space is actually ahouse, I think you would be best served by going to the gardening section.
