first of all, don't believe anything you see on tv, or the internet for that matter.

truthfully, you can't spot reduce fat, meaning you can't just exercise one muscle group and lose fat from that area. So in a sense it is true that crunches will not flatten your tummy. Of course I highly doubt whatever they were trying to sell you will do so either.

The fact is calories in vs calories out is the only way to lose weight, and it will happen all over, you can't force it to only happen in one area.

Also, just another 2 cents... by doing a lot of ab work (regardless of what kind, could be crunches or machines or twists or planks) actually makes the muscle larger, which makes it "protrude" so to speak. Meaning if you have fat on top of your abs, and you continue to work them, you are more than likely only making your stomach bigger or stick out further. It is just like any other muscle you work. Your abs are not magic or different. You work a Muscle it gets bigger.

You need to do at the very minimum 45 minutes of cardio to lose a significant amount a weight, every single day at a fairly good intensity. These people telling you that you can lose weight in 10 minutes are idiots. It is hard f'in work.

True, there is no such thing as spot reduction, meaning if you work a certain muscle you will loose fat around that area, you will develop the muscle but keep in mind that fat and muscle are two seperate things, to lose fat you must do cardiovascular exercise and you will shed fat consistantly over your body, sit ups will build your stomach muscles but if you have a fatty stomach you will not see a so called " six pack" because of the fat covering it, , to aquire this, do sit ups to build the muscle and cardio to lose the fat.

Crunches and sit ups can help make your stomach muscles stronger, which can make a difference in the appearance of your midsection. If you have a lot of fat around your stomach though you will still need to do aerobic exercise to burn the fat.

Crunches and sit ups help work your abs. They don't make you lose the weight it just strengthens those muscles and makes your tummy appear flatter not rounded.

diet and exercises together is best way to lose wight and it usually comes off the stomach last first place to gain last to go..sit ups develop the muscles underneath the fat and give a flatter look as well as helping minor in the back to im prove your posture which also gives you a straight long look..so they will benefit you

What crunches will do is strengthen the abdominal muscles. So, you could have six-pack abs underneath the fat...no one will see them until the weight is lost.

Yes.

Crunches & situps tone the muscles underneath the fat, but don't remove the fat on top.

You need to change your food habits for that to happen.

It is true, what it does is tighten the muscles up so the weight doesn't show.
