They're ready for a big boy bed when you start all the other "big boy" stuff such as potty training.
This is usually around the age of 2. Also, make sure to switch over to a toddler bed if they start trying to climb out of their crib. You want to switch over if that starts happening because it's dangerous for them to climb out.

The Child should stay in the crib until he/she's about 1-1.5 years old. Then at that age you can get a toddler bed w/ side guard rails. 2 years old the latest!! Good Luck:)

I put my 2 year old in the bed when he was 20 months. But the thing is that is was climbing out of his crib everday. It was the right time for him. Maybe you can see signs that it is the right time. Good Luck. Because it is not an easy task for the first couple of nights.

when the are jumping out of the crib - its time for a toddler bed! It is just safer, the crib to the floor is a hell of a drop sometimes.

My son was two when he fell trying to climb out of his crib. We decided we'd rather see a small fall from a couple feet onto blankets to absorb the shock, than have him have another fall. So around two. I would think it depends on the child.
Once your child is potty trained he/she will need to be able to get in and out of bed to use the bathroom.

Sometimes it just depends on the child. My daughter Lizzie, who's three, just started a couple months ago, but I jumped out of my crib when I was 1 and 9 months (for attention, no doubt, as it was just after my sister was born). When your child is ready you'll know.

When you know or at least have fears that they can get out of their crib or try and get out of the crib and hurt themselves. That's when they're ready to get out and get a toddler bed.
