If it's not a new model then it probably backlashes when you cast. Backlash means that the reel outruns the line (i.e., it runs faster than the line) and that causes the tangle. You need to "thumb" the reel which means that you have to brake the reel with your thumb to slow it down a bit. Good luck.

check to make sure u are making the line go on the reel evenly when you reel in. the line must go back and forth with one hand while you reel with the other. The next thing is the line must be taunt when casting. Use your thumb on the spool when you cast. Keep a little tension on the spool when casting. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. If you are on a boat the line goes straight down, if you don't keep tension on it, it will do the same thing. this is called a birds nest. GOOD LUCK and TIGHT LINES

Hi
Im not sure what model you are using but i have owed several over the years ,Mine had a magnetic drag on the side (not the butterfly) this magnetic drag adjusts the drag on your lure weight.too set this set up your rodpress the cast buttonn with you thumb on the drum, tighten the drag(mine were clockwise to tighten the drag)your magnetic draw should stop the lure from pulling lin. now slowly release the magnegitic drag until the lure drops slowly.thats where you want it.go a little tighter if you still get birds nest.when casting these reels your thumb helps stop the birds nests to
