Who am I describing?

They're hypocrites, they say they hate something and do it themselves. They believe what they learn in BOOKS written by MEN. They have closed minds and not open to other ideas. They believe those who do not think they same way as them are "stupid". They hate to consider they may be wrong. Their knowledge has come from personal study and studies done by men who have studied it more. They have a difficult to believe ideas as to how we all got here. They quote from books to try to prove a point. They dont think for themselves.

I am not baiting for a fight... just honest answers.

Honestly - this could describe anyone who has a conviction about their belief or non-belief. Not all people (regardless their religious affiliation or non-affiliation) have that kind of closed-minded conviction. But there are some in every group.

First of all, religious people also hate to consider the fact that they might be wrong. And since most people aren't raised atheist, those who are atheist generally have considered that they might be wrong, and determined they probably aren't (probably because the existence of God is impossible to prove or disprove). I think, however, you are assuming that atheists are personally contentious because their ideas might not sync with yours, or others'. This is simply not true.
It takes a very open mind to accept atheism when one is in a religious society. Atheists who are contentious, Richard Dawkins for example, generally think that not only is religion wrong, but it is damaging and ruins lives (which is true). An attempt to resolve this might seem like a closed mind when it is just a frustrated mind, frustrated with indoctinating vulnerable children with scary stories for example.
The fact that athiests have difficult to believe ideas as to how we all got here is a bad argument. I presume the idea to which you are referring is evolution, which is more of a fact than an idea. I don't have the time to 'prove' or argue for evolution by natural selection, but I would offer you a question in response. What is wrong with evolution? Does it conflict with your idea as to how we all got here, or is it too hard to understand. Because if you pick up one or two biology texts, you will see that evolution is rather simple fundementally and that it makes a whole lot of sense.
Finally, you may be confusing athiests with religious people as those who don't think for themselves. Athiests do not go to church or temple every weekend to be told by an old man how to interpret a book and thus how to live. No person can become athiest wihout thinking for herself, and all it takes for somebody to become religious is to not think for himself. Your description seems to be of a made up, charicature of an athiest. Please rationally think through your criticisms in the future before you attack a sterotypical persona that rarely exists.

The bible was a book written by men and put together in it's current form by committee...... so that is believing what you learn from a book is it not?

No one has all the answers and no one ever will. Perhaps some things will never be known but that makes many uncomfortable enough that they either delve into religious texts for answers or non religious texts. I have no trouble with the unknown.. as far as I'm concerned I'm here and I don't necessarily need to know why.

My book was written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
People who think contrary to me are not stupid, just blind.
My knowledge has come not through study but by revelation. I...

2Ti 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I quote from scripture simply because it's true, not to prove anything to anyone.
Only by choosing to think for myself have I been blessed with the knowledge of the Truth, and everyone else must come to it the same way.

Php 2:12
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

That's my honest answer.

well, honestly, I don't know who you are talking about...

Christians ( believers, in your words) depend on the bible, inspired by God, (Men were "moved by the Holy Spirit" to pen the words)

Christians - those who follow Chirst - do not think others of a different persuasion are "stupid". Christians understand that non-believers have a certain viewpoint based in traditions of men, hidden pride and prejudice, not stupidity. Satan has "blinded the eyes of them that do not believe". Christians are to be compassionate, patient, kind, understanding, etc.

Christians think for themselves just as much as any other human being.

honestly!

god bless!!

it takes a great wisdom to understand and have compassion for humanity. we silly humans with our out of control egos.

how difficult it is to admit - that there is something here i don't understand, the knowing of which could change everything!

the real reason is- if people who are so programmed in thinking one way were to let in the possibility that they could be wrong- their whole life would be a lie- it would be like pulling the rug out from under them.

what would you do- if you found out for sure- NOTHING IS AS IT REALLY SEEMS- and everything you see before you is an illusion- kinda like the matrix

your world would come crashing down

but what people don't realize~ it's the best thing that could ever happen to you.

Atheism is the state either of being without theistic beliefs, or of actively disbelieving in the existence of deities. In antiquity, Epicureanism incorporated aspects of atheism, but it disappeared from the philosophy of the Greek and Roman traditions as Christianity gained influence. ...

You are describing a fundamentalist. It can be a fundamentalist from every group, every group has a small % of silly fundamentalist, Christians, Muslims and Atheists alike.

Well done in describing that humans are basicly all the same, and every group has some bad apples. Or bananas, or oranges or strawberries, I'd hate to generalize fruit.

Your describing a small percentage from both groups. Unfortunately that small percent is typically the loudest & craziest out there; making it seem there are more idiots in the world then there actually are.
