Would you know of any paintings that are really tasteful and elegant - preferably a dramatic scene with (emotional-angry, sad, etc..) people.

Sure, try googling Gericault and Delacroix, painters of the French Romantic movement of the early 19th century. That's the original meaning of romantic, as in drama!
