Hi there,

I would try and not give them cheese every week, but say every few months because the fat content in cheese is huge and only humans can break down the fat where animals cannot. It is sweet to feed them what you eat, but the kindest thing to do is feed them things like chicken for treats and or proper cat treats.

It may taste nice to them to eat and they are lucky to have such tid bits, but honestly, cheese is not the best thing to feed them as it is just full of fat that can eventually clog up arteries in animals and they have a shorter life span if they are having this every week. I know people love to feed their animals things they like, but to a cat or dog, they don't actually taste the cheese like you would - it is the fat that they are developing a liking for and all animals crave fat even when they are healthy already.

Unless your cats were starving, I would only feed them cat food or give cat buiscuits that will aid correct digestion because cheese will constipate them as they cannot process it like we do and takes weeks for it to come out the other end but the fat content in the cheese will put on weight and cause them to not only get bigger, but more lethargic because they are constipated.

No, it isn't healthy at all so I would try and give them cat biscuits that will be far better for them. Sorry not to agree with the others, but am giving you honest advice. Keep them off the cheese or anything human foods.

My Cat Likes Cheese

As many people have said, cats tend to be lactose intolerant, and therefore dairy products can cause gas and constipation (or the opposite). There ARE types of cheese that are very low on lactose (my mum's lactose intolerant, but there are still some kinds of cheese that she can eat), but these tend to have a stronger taste, so it's unsure if your cat would like that (I know I don't ^^; )

Even if you find either that your cat isn't lactose intolerant, or you manage to find a low-lactose cheese that he likes, you need to be careful about the fat in it. A little now and then (once or twice every month) doesn't really hurt, but more often than that and you could give him fat-related health problems. =/

I have one cat who loves cheese. I only give her 3-4 pieces of cheese about the size of a dime as a little treat - maybe overy month or so. I wouldn't include it in their regular diet - every day, but once in a while it is ok as long as it isn't very much.

while cats can tolerate milk products, cheese is made for humans and it is best not to have them eat food that is not made for a cat's digestive system very much.

I now have 6 cats, have had between 2 and 6 over 35 years and most love cheese - in moderation it does them no harm.

It is totaly fine, I am a student studying to become a Vet myself.
So I know a thing or two.
And I have had over a number of cats before!
the only side effect is...gas!
Cats will get very smelly if they eat cheese, but other then that they are fine to eat it.
Good luck!

Cowgirl In Need~

P.S
I would suggest to get yourself some strong purfume to put on your cat!

My cat likes cheese too, It's ok for them to eat, but I wouldn't give him too much, my cat throws up sometimes if he eats more than just a few crumbs.

No. It's good. Cats are basically like humans, when it comes to dairy. Some are lactose intolerant. Some aren't. Some love milk and/or cheese. Some don't. My male cat doesn't like dairy at all, but my female does even though she is lactose intolerant.

No, it is not good for them. I'm surprised how many people say it's okay as long as it doesn't give them diarrhea. Conversely to diarrhea, cheese can constipate a cat and give gastrointestinal distress. It can make them painfully sick.
