What are they going to eat? Could they survive if everything else was dead? Or would some moss or lichen make it through too?

Hmm... trident replacement...

Cockroaches are just a susceptible to radiation as any other type of creature, more so than many types of insect. Cockroaches resist radiation 6 to 15 times better than humans do. They still die at levels FAR lower than that released by a nuclear detonation. See the link under source for an entire article on the subject.

I've just read a book that states that far from being the last to die from a nuclear attack they would actually be one of the first to go. Apparently your average fruit fly could take more radiation than your average cockroach. Now if they could just survive 1000 C, 200 MPH winds and a year without the sun....

I have heard that they actually would survive a nuclear attack (heard it when I was at school).
Don't know what they would eat, although maybe if the survived, it might be because they are not susceptible to radiation?

Most likely, cockroaches, rats, earth-worms and ants would be
able to survive a nuclear bomb as they are better adapted for
survival than humans.

this is a myth. cockroaches would die from radiation just like anything else. This misconception stems from the fact cockroaches were found to survive in the hot parts of volcanoes and the radiation reffered to was heat radiation only, not nuclear.

Im sure some other kind of animal could live through the radiation. If not, well then the roachs would starve to death, and die. So really nothing can live through the bomb.
