I recently bought a car from a dealer in Dallas. He sent me a reciept for title application, along with the registration sticker. I haven't yet recieved a title or license plates.

Dallas is in a county 100 miles from my city. Do I need to take the reciept and sticker he sent me to my local vehicle registration office and get new plates? Never done it this way before.

Take the registration sticker he sent you and put it on the windshield of the car in the place indicated. Call the dealer and ask when you should get your title. Look at the front and back of the vehicle. Plate there? Hey, it belongs to you.

Don't forget to have the inspection done.

In Texas the lisence plate belongs to the car! You should get a tag from the MVD to put on the plate. Unlike New Mexico where the plate belongs to the owner when you buy a new car you just take your plate - re-register it to the new car and off you go. You never have to keep learning new lisence plate numbers.

Just take the paperwork to your local tag agency and they'll sort you out. The tag stays with the vehicle in TX, though they'll usually let you get a new one if you wish.

License plates are sold to a person, not a car. Yes you do.
