I am quite appealed by the answers the European guy who wants to become British got ...
I knew you British people could be rather touchy when immigration is concerned, but I did not know, up to now, that your racism might me extended to me.... I am French (living in Ireland, though, lucky you!). If I was to live in your country, would I hear some "froggy go back home" and the like?
What could we then say, us, poor French, Spanish and others, colonised by your senior citizens, who spend our social security money on their old limbs and weak prostates, who, in some villages, can't go to our news agent or bakery without earing Shakespeare language, who, if it goes on that way, might have to change our paella and cassoulet for fish and chips?
Note that I don't mind toooo much for the fish and chips ,nor for english speaking. I don't even really mean it when I talk of medical expenses, as I think it is just fair that we have a gentemen's agreement on the matter. But I do mind the racism.

Sorry if I sounded offensive to the Bitish people in general. I, truly, didn't mean it. The part on English invading my country was mainly a pun, used to provoke not all of you, but only those who answered meanly to the question asked by Liko, the European guy who wants to get British citizenship. Than you to "she shaw sea shore" and "she wolf" for understanding that and giving me an articulated answer. Thanks to the others too... I definitely did not imagine being French in England could raise so much hatred. And, yes, you are right, you did a lot for us along with American, Senegalese, Algerians etc... Most of us DO feel grateful, I hope. My mum does, for sure, and I was brought up in awe of England. Please, don't make me change that!

being british i have to say im not at all racist..i dont think that anyone shud be judged on their nationality.. i take people for who they are ..not where they come from ...their place of origin does not ..and shud not affect the rights they have when they are resident in this country .. i think that we are very easy going here and although there is some racism here.. it is a minority..we are a very multi cultured country ..and overall get on quite well ...with a good sense of humour ...that singles out no particular race .. just all done in fun ...we especially laff at ourselfs alot...after all laughter is a good remedy for bad times ...

Don't include France in the idea of the Costa del Geriatrica, because that is exclusive to Spain, and because of the price structures has very little to do with France. The OAPs in Spain live in small enclaves with their own services, clubs and even English doctors and dentists. (Or at least English speaking professionals who set up with the specific idea of servicing that community in Spain) As far as France is concerned, there is not the large community and there is a great reluctance, particularly in rural areas, to speak, or even attempt to speak, any other language than French.
French are, by English standards, rather uncouth, incredibly headstrong and as a nation have a fantastic ability to see themselves as being 100% right, 100% of the time, when sadly the reverse is usually the case. Your ferries go on strike at Christmas, when you object to British lamb, you drag cut and bleeding live animals through the streets, and you seem to have a penchant for revolution, which is quite apposite, as the average French person is quite revolting.
The French are good at entering wars, but not very good at finishing them. They collaberated during WW2 and then claimed they were part of the victory, and mutinied during WW1.
French people claim their culinary skills are the greatest in the world and sneer at other nations, in spite of the fact that four of the top five european restaurants are in London.
If you think that Brits are being racist, you are completely wrong. It is called 'la difference' and it is something that has been created by the French, not by us.

I think we should be like other countries, if people wish to come to this country they must be willing to work, and willing to do jobs in the skills we need people for. If we did that the country would be much better off. By the government giving out so much to keep people that come here with no intention of working, it means there is less in the pot for the people who live here. That in turn makes people resentfull towards those that come here as free loaders, so this is not always racism ( I know it does exist) but some times it is, just resentment. Specially when the government complains of not enough money in the pot and find something else to tax us on. The blame for some of these problems can clearly be placed at our government door. Yet again!! bad management.

Within Europe France is the most racist country. look at what is happening in France in the Paris just now. They hate everyone ,Let us not forget that for centuries the UK has been at war with France numerous times and beaten them almost every time. For decades France kept the UK out the Common market and in recent years put an illegal block on british beef despite what the EU said.
So don`t start spouting racism without first checking your facts.
The french are a drain on europe with they`re massive subsidies to fund farmers that are too lazy to work.
By the way paella is not a french dish it`s either Greek or Spanish

Most Europeans are Caucasians, all the same race, so it isn't technically racism.
I believe that there are serious immigration problems in this country, to many people let in years ago and too many of them now sponging off the state.
I personally, as a British citizen would rather see hard working age earning tax paying legal immigrants in this country than council riff benefit sponging lazy do nothing all day British origin chavs that our country seems to be filled with today.

We are not all European racists, alot of us would prefer not to be so involved in Europe and I for one can think of better things to do with the Billions we throw into Europe. But thats a different argument. Its a shame some of the French are not the of same thinking - what with them destroying British War Graves and dubbing 'Roast Beefs go home, you are polluting our soil'. I think the British did alot for France as well as the Americans and the Commonwealth.

Are a french bird, iv enjoyed many a holiday in the south of France, where iv seen, as you say, many a senior citizen from England. There are differences of course, the English pensioner may be allowed your health benefits, but they buy their own houses to live in and still support themselves using their own earnings and pensions earned in England.
What i didn't see much of, was thousands upon thousands of immigrants from all over the planet living in houses the french have to pay for, in England there are over a million families living off us, and that doesn't just mean using the nhs, it means we pay for their homes and their food and their children to go to school etc etc. The french do not have these burdens from English OAP's.
THINK YOURSELF LUCKY.

A great many British adore and admire what they perceive to be the typical French way of life. That is why we all want to come and live with you.
What many of us don't like are the politicians that are screwing up the EU.
The rest is just a bit of fun. We also poke fun at the Irish, Scots, Welsh, Germans, etc.

The French are the cause of British hatred, your governments policies to pass immigrants on to the UK, to put it mildly angers us. As a result we can't pick and choose which immigrants we want, so everyone gets the same response.

Being French isn't a race, it's a nationality.
What I do agree with is if someone wishes to emigrate to a foreign country they must be sufficiently proficient in that language. That includes ex-pats in Spain who think the locals should talk English.
