If they cover their heads for religious ceremonies, so will you, and they'll provide you a yarmulke if you're male, even bobby pins to put it on your head if it won't stay there! (Have you ever seen a man with a Jewfro trying to keep one of those things on? I smiled and sympathized all at once.)
It's very nice of you to want to be polite to your friend. You can always ask the person who invited you if you have any other questions--they'll be glad you did, I promise.
And I knew there would be something like this--an etiquette page for non-Jews!

if you go to a service, they will give you a kippah at the door. outside of services, you won't need to wear one.
