The states to the UK is too long a distance. I'd be just friends. You can always get involved later if you move closer to each other, but that long a distance will cause you wasted time and frustration and heartache.
Long distance relationships can work, but unless you are wealthy popping over for the weekend on a regular basis is not an option.

Yes they can work. I myself am in a long diatance relationship. I live in Canada and my fiance is in the USA. We met several years ago in a chat room and were friends first for a few years. Now, we're in the process of getting me a fiance visa to move down there and start a life together. I go down to see him every other month or so for a few weeks at a time. When I'm not there in person, we talk on the phone every night and see eachother using our webcams every weekend. A lot of people will tell you that long diatance relationships dont and never work out. I say they are right to a certain extent. It all depends on the couple. Some people can't handle the distance, so they cheat, or do whatever. If you truely love the person your with, whether or not your thousands of miles away, no distance can take that away from you. Always remember, if it was meant to be, then y'all will eventually be together in person. Hope this helps and the best of luck to ya!

they can only work if you have definite plans to be living in the same place in the near future. in my experience they have never worked and were never very satisfying. they also often result in infidelity.
