Because pick up lines are so stupid that we think it will make the girl laugh and have some sympathy for us. You gotta give us credit for at least trying.

Hey now that's being harsh on us guys!
Guys think of ways to "break the ice", and well you have to admit if you are in a pub or any other place guys only get that one chance to make an impression, and hey if a guy chooses to use stoooopid pick up lines, too bad for him...
But then there are other guys who make some useful and mentally stimulating conversation too, just keep your ears open to them!

Because they have nothing better to do with their lives then sit at home eating nachos with melted cheese, all messy, and explaining to their guy friends how thier stupid pick-up lines are cool! My guy-friends do that alot around me!

simple, we are terrified of rejection. If we use a really chessy line we can use that to sooth our ego and blame the line, I always use excuse me would you care to join me for a dance. Or excuse me I find you attractive and wounder if yuu would care to join me for a meal.
It doesn't always work but I never walk away feeling I've been rude.

I kind of think it is endearing when guys use silly lines. It is kind of funny and I love to laugh.
