First let me tell you that I own a pest control company and what I will recommend is the complete treatment that should help you completely get rid of the fleas.

First, treat the dog with Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas that get on the dog for the first 24 hours. Second, use either frontline or advantage. I usually tell people to switch back and forth between the two because there are two different types of fleas that are common on dogs and frontline works better on the one type and advantage works better on the other.

Once the dog has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Outside I would use Demon with Gentrol or Nylar. Treating your house is just as important as treating the dog!

It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals.

The beat bet is a capstar pill you can get from your vet that only costs about five dollars. It will kill every flea on your pet for twenty four hours. Right after giving the pill use either frontline or advantix on your pet as a flea preventative. Don't apply it two to three days before or after a bath. Make sure you use it regualrly. Capstar cannot be used as a preventative. If your pet goes outside you night want to consider treating your yard with something called Over and Out. It is an ant killer that has the same ingredient as frontline and can be bought at home depot. I don't recommend using over the counter flea preventatives like hartz because the ingredients have been known to have severe side effects on some pets. Frontline is in no way toxic to your pet even in injested. Good luck!

I just went through this process when I brought home a rescue puppy. My vet gave me a regimen to follow and I am flea free. First give the pet/s a bath and treat them with a topical like Advantage or Frontline (I used Advantage). Next vacuum your house and use this product called MyCodex. It is an aerosol spray. Make sure you spray the base boards and any furniture that the pets get on or near. also pray all carpets. You only need a fine misting. Follow up the next month with another dose of the topical until the first freeze, or continually depending on where you live. I hated the idea of having fleas and this cleared up the problem instantly. We were back at the vet 3 weeks after finding the fleas and we were clean!

Go to the vet and get a safe flea product such as Frontline or Advantage.
Keep your house vacumned and empty the vacumn in an outside trash container after each vacumning.Make sure to pay particular attention to couch & chair cushions, around baseboards, under furniture.

first treat your dog with Frontline or Advantage like product. It will kill all the fleas on your animal fairly quickly. Be sure your pet meets age and/or weight requirements. They are listed on the manf. label or you can ask your vet.
Then treat your home with a product from your vet or a reputable pet supply store. Be sure to clean under places (fridge) as eggs can hide there.
You might have a second in home hatching of fleas in your house, so be aware and treat again according to manf. directions. Good luck! -dd

Use Advantage flea control. The kind you put on the back of the cat liquid form. Use this for three months and your flea problem will be gone from your pets and your home. It is a little expensive, but really works. Good luck.
