Here's a suggestion: Try making a log or better said, keeping a diary of how much time you watch TV. Don't try to change your habits to impress your diary! Get an honest log of how much time you are actually watching. It's not a bad idea to also log how much "screen" time you have each day/week total, because when you add up TV, computer, any games on a screen, it may be quite an eye opener.
Then, after you have the idea of where you're at with this, try using a TV guide to pick out all the shows you want to watch. After they're over, be determined turn the thing off until the next pre-planned program.
You might try scheduling your Bible reading time in advance also. See if any of this helps. I wish you well.
P.S. If you are going to read the Bible all the way thru, may I make a suggestion or two? First of all, choose a modern language version, something you understand the best. I like the New World Translation the best but I also really like the NIV and the new King James that's in modern Engish.
Secondly, try starting at the book of Matthew, read thru Revelation, and then afterwards, start at Genesis. I think personally that this is an easier method for a first time thru the Bible. Just my opinion.

Fasting is good, pray only when necessary, all people eventually get into Heaven, God is great and smart, he can cure, heal and fix anything and anyone. The computer and the TV are pretty much the same thing nowadays and it's nothing more than a learning tool, which is better than any book. Use this tool to learn about what God has created, nature, animals, galaxies, even how people think. Just be nice to people and you will have no problem gettin' into heaven, I have just spoken in tongue.

You think...you are going...to get some help on *addiction* to the *computer*...HERE?!?!
*drums fingers until you get it*
Seriously, it's probably just because TV and computer are more fun than your Word. And don't look so shocked, either--it's hard to get kids reading other books for the same reason. Usually the only thing that will overcome that is a truly interesting and well-written book.

This is something I worry about also. Being homebound I am so limited in my options. I personally don’t care for TV. But I know I spent way too much time on the Internet. At least this Q&A site offers some different opinions for me to use in my bible study. How fortunate for you that you have more options available. Perhaps while you are on the internet you could find some local clubs or churches that interest you and make plans to visit at least 1 a week until you find some that you enjoy more than internet or TV.
Peace :)

For starters you can pray for God's help...but then you must act in accord with the prayer and turn off the computer and the tv and open the Bible. God will help you if you are sincere. As for the going to heaven part...you should learn what the Bible really teaches about this. Jesus said this...
John 17:3: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
It is very important to study and take in knowledge of God and Jesus and to search for the truth.
John 4: 23 & 24: "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”
Psalms 37: 9-11,29, 37-40: "For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.
10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
29 The righteous themselves will possess the earth,
And they will reside forever upon it.
37 Watch the blameless one and keep the upright one in sight,
For the future of [that] man will be peaceful.
38 But the transgressors themselves will certainly be annihilated together;
The future of wicked people will indeed be cut off.
39 And the salvation of the righteous ones is from Jehovah;
He is their fortress in the time of distress.
40 And Jehovah will help them and provide them with escape.
He will provide them with escape from wicked people and save them,
Because they have taken refuge in him."
Jesus said: Matthew 5:5: " “Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth."

thank you to far and it basically keeps getting worse. it is basically like most of the flicks that pop out presently or the video games. each and every thing must be violent, gory, killing, it is loopy. each and every of the channels on cable and it it is exceptionally annoying to locate something worth gazing. and human beings ask your self why some young ones are like they're immediately. circulate exterior and play as a substitute of sitting around glued to a television demonstrate screen the two with video games or trash on television. Try and schedule a time to read that is quiet. Pick the same time every day and just start. If you miss a day or two, don't quite, just start again.

If you have cable then have it disconnected. Volunteer to serve in a local church ministry. Go to Bible studies at church. Find someone at church to be an accountability partner.
Of course all of this assumes that you belong to a church. If you don't then pray for God to guide you to one of his choosing. In the mean time listen to good preaching like you can hear on this link http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/enduring_truth/archives.asp
