I would like to be able to print out my free vehicle history report on line.

You can't. There are no free vehicle report services. They don't charge you to run the VIN, but if you want to see the results you have to pay.

Vehicle reports aren't free. You can get a limited VIN check from NICB.org. It doesn't give a complete history of the car, but it does tell you whether it has been reported stolen or as a total loss.

If you are looking for a complete vehicle report for free, it is not free.
You can get cheap vehicle reports from reliable sites instead of Carfax.
I personally use Vinaudit. This site provides instant history reports for used
vehicles in partnership with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System.
