I keep hearing this theory that religious people have higher birth rates, and while every generation turns away from religion, the next generation comes into religious homes because they tend to want more babies. I won't bother linking because there are so many variations on this concept -- from political to geographical. But the gist is, the Baptists from Alabama have more kids than the agnostics in Seattle.
Thoughts?

What's a "200% pregnancy rate"?
And don't Christians have sex for fun too?

Religious people have higher birth rates because they are less likely to abort, less likely to use birth control, and religious women feel more duty-bound to have sex when their husbands want it.
Statistics can be made to show anything. Women in Alabama also have higher unwed births and teenage births than most anywhere else. What does this do for the religiosity theory?

I have 3 children, and am a Christian. I live in the south and have my tubes tied. I had 3 children because I did not want any more than that. I am sure you will get some answers that Christians do not believe in birth control or religion is for people who are low class and from predominently Southern homes. However, many Christians do not follow the Pope or any other faith that says it is against God to determine how many children you will have for yourself. I do not believe my God would want me to bring more children into the world than I can feed, clothe and take care of the medical needs of. But then again, I cannot speak for everyone, nor can I speak against the ones who have different opinions.

hard to say
In addition, I think there is probably a higher rate of abortion among more secular and more liberal people.
My guess is people with very large families probably tend to be religious. People with no children or few may or may not be

Well some religions (Catholic) ban birth control, some religions get real fanatic about it(Muslim). Having children is what the Bible tells them to do. Without children women would have no role in churches in the most part.

Scriptureman says:
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, BE FRUITFUL, AND MULTIPLY, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

I would believe it. I don't know whether this is what you are getting at but most religions don't believe in contraception so obviously they have a way higher chance of getting pregnant.
Definately something to think about but....

I don't know about that.
I'm Pagan (a different sort of religious, I suppose?) and I have a 200% pregnancy rate.
