Quran 2:65 "And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/002.qmt.html#002.065

In Islam, accoding to the Quran, its possible, if Allah is displeased, to be magically transformed into an ape or pig. Heres more:

Quran 5:60 Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, (as judged) by the treatment it received from Allah? those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil;- these are (many times) worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!" http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/005.qmt.html#005.060

Ok, lets consider this for a second "be ye apes, despised and rejected"? So if your made into an ape, you shall be despised and rejected because apes are despised and rejected...wait...are they? Where are apes despised and rejected. Someone explain.

This isn't restricted to the teachings of Muhammed alone, nor to Islam or any other religion in particular. It is a reflection of humans' discomfort with how similar apes are to them! Deep inside, humans recognize that we are connected, related, even if they refused to believe apes and humans have a common ancestor.

Since apes are similar, but clearly NOT human, they are often regarded as "Abominations" by people with little or no scientific education. This view was prevalent throughout the world and apes have received generally shabby treatment throughout history.

Another things that has bothered humans, esp. repressed ones, is the free reign of the "Id", or desire (for sex, food and so on), shown in apes. It reminds humans of their own deepest desires and they feel shame. But they punish the ape for it, rather than accept their own failings and repression.

Just to let you know, a lot of people answering this question do not know what the hell they are talking about.

Allah does not despise apes or pigs. He is the one who created all animals in the Earth and does not despise them. He refers to people who have gone astray as apes and swine figuratively to degrade them; he is not implying that he hates apes and swine.

It's just a comparison he uses to compare those type of people to them.

Hi. I don't think God can despise his own creation. However, God dispises those among the people he created who behave like apes or swine, meaning taht they so not use judgement and moral behaviour to follow His commandments. God is merciful in 2 ways. 1) he is merciful towards all creation by providing for them and giving them certian things like life, family, whatever. 2) he is merciful towards the believers by answering their prayers and bestowing upon them his blesings. Those who disbeliev or those who do not follow His commandments are disliked because they behave like animals, answering to their desires and impulses rather to a higher calling.
