I have an 2002 Diesel Ford Mondeo Saloon. In the last few days, the boot won't open unless I physically use the key. It should open with the remote, the button beside the lock or the interior button. There is an indicator light on my dash showing a door is open when all doors are closed. I've changed the battery in the remote and oiled the boot lock, but neither has helped. I used to hear a solenoid switching sound when I pressed the button beside the lock on the boot lid but this isn't happening now. Does anyone know what could be wrong please? (The air bag light is coming on intermittently too). Thanks

It sounds like the solenoid has jammed in the open position which could also account for the light on the dash telling you that their is a door open.It will need to be replaced,You will need a mechanic who don't mind working on auto electrics or you ford dealer the later is the most expensive route...Good luck and i hope this helps

Sounds like perhaps a kind of connection problem - the car thinks the boot is open when it isn't. Could be very simple to fix, if you can locate the connector.

This would explain why you don't hear the noise when you push the button, it's only active when the boot is shut and presumably if the car electrics think the boot is open the button is deactivated.

Might be worth popping down to a local garage if you're not sure and asking them to have a look. They'll gladly do it and probably for free if there's someone in there who fancies you (as there is in my local one!).

The airbag light is unlikely to be a connected issue... although is most likely also a connector fault. You should have konwn what you were in for when you bought a Ford! I'm just glad mine's still under warranty!

I had a 2003 Mondeo diesel. When I came out of work the boot would not open, the indicators didn't work, and the doors would not lock. I assumes it was a fuse, but eventually the Ford dealer found the ECU (some kind of computer) had packed up, and it was replaced under warranty.

That's interesting about the airbag hazard lamp. Mine too, but not the hatch problem.
Suggest you find the solenoid (strip inside panel away) and clean the spade connectors as corrosion might be to blame. A little WD40 would help.
Go to www.mirez.co.uk It's the only site I know that will help you with the electrics. It's pretty good too.

There is a switch by your boot catch that can turn off the solanoid, check that it hasnt been switched by accident, but you should get your airbag looked at by a ford dealer, just in case it goes off while your driving!

have you checked all the fuses and make sure they are in good condition with no bad connections? bad time of year for dampness there may have been build up and corrosion.
