Why?

If you are an Asian kid (I had to limit the characters because I was running out of room), and you are going to somebody's house for an Asian party... then you must greet all the elders b/c that is a sign of respect. In Vietnamese, you have to say Chao, (name of the person). If you don't, that is considered rude and your parents can slap or whip you if you do not acknowledge your elders... same applies for disobedience. The thing I dont get though is how I sometimes acknowledge the elders while looking them straight in the eyes, and they ignore me.

I am a true blue asian kid :) And from what I know, looking elders in the eye is a form of defiance or disrespect. Hence, the elderly person might just have a very traditional view on this, therefore they don't acknowledge. Either that, or they don't get looked in the eye very often by kids in general and are not used to it! Just stick to your guns, as long as you are not doing anything outrageous to offend them, you're fine! Can't please everyone you know. :)

Being ignored for one reason or another happens to most people at some time. Don't get your feelings hurt, just remember to be mannerly during your visit and learn the lesson they're teaching you without knowing it...this is the way NOT to behave!

Umm do you mean Asian kid? Well if you are or someone you know is then you should ignore it. Or if they are rude to you ask why they are doing that in the first place.

"azn" or not any kid that just goes over to someone's house just to greet them is odd.

They are just not good at expressing their emotions. Don't take it personally...
