They really cant cost taht much to make, but they know they have us over a barrel, if we want to see and hear we have to buy them. Its not like other products where if you dont want them you dont buy them.

Because companies love to profit off of the blind and the hearing impaired. If you think abou it. All eye glasses are are 2 pieces of glass with a metal frame. Everything is made with a machine so it would'nt be hard making a special type of glass for the blind eye.

I've wondered that too. And your right the should be a lot more affordable. Unfortunatly anything medical comes with and exagerated price tag. It's sad really no one gives a crap about the peoples well being just making an other buck.

Don't know how old you are but several years ago it was the same with drugs. We would go to the drug store to get a Rx and just pay the price and not complain. Finally people starting complaining and of course now the prices have come down.

Most optometrist/optican offices are in malls or business areas and commercial leases are expensive.
Factor in insurance, overhead, staff salaries, malpractice insurance, employee benefits and the doctor's salary ... mucho $$ for glasses/hearing aids.

you just answered your own question, they do it because they can and they know the products they supply are indispensable to thier users, same as everything else, food, fuel, tax etc etc etc.
We pay because we have to and they cahrge us the earth because they can
