The answer depends on what certain people believe the bible to be. If you believe that the bible is the infallible or inerrant word of God, as if God wrote it Himself, then 'Misquoting Jesus' could rock your faith. But if you believe, like I do, that the bible is a book of translated testimonies and accounts of men called by God, then 'Misquoting Jesus' doesn't challenge my faith. It just shows the human side of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James, and Paul etc.

If you and I were to experience the presence and life of Jesus and then write a journal about it, there would be discrepancies when comparing our entries, all because we humans don't have perfect memories or we'd focus on different things. The authors of the bible, called men of God, were unique individuals and were not perfect.

The point of 'Misquoting Jesus' was not to challenge Jesus's divinity, but rather, to show that the various contributors to the bible were humans, so don't expect infallibility out of the bible. The apostles were all unified in declaring that Jesus was perfect and divine, and they did so in their own way.

Why do you people still question the Bible so much if they have already decided not to believe it? When I know something is not true, I dont ask about it- I have no desire to even search about it- I ignore it. Yet I see so many on here continually asking about the Bible and God- and it does show that those who do- ARE seeking the truth of God- even though they deny it. There are many books out there that will say a lot of bad things about God's word- That does not surprise me or any other christian I am sure. We stand alone on the word of GOD! We know it is truth- And we are secure in Christ- Praise Be to Him!

Misquoting Jesus isn't alone. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of books with examples of why the Bible isn't accurate. Some of them are interesting theories, some of them are more direct. I'd recommend reading The Jesus Puzzle by Earl Doherty. You might also consider watching The God Who Wasn't There (documentary). They're both pretty interesting.

How many people end up in prison?

Satan and his demons are always trying to turn people away from God and his Son. If books like that are published, then they are succeeding. Christians need to stay faithful and prove Satan is a liar.
