I want to burn taped songs to CD. I can 'tape out' to 'microphone in' and hear the tape on my speakers. (No 'line in' )

Try Audacity. It's a free open source (GNU limited GPL) sound recorder, ind I've found it quite useful. You can get it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ if you like.

As for the ripping, just plug in a cord between a tape player's headphone jack and your computer's microphone jack. In Audacity, click record, then immediately after that, push play on your tape player.

Your mic line is your line in. Check your volume and make sure your line in is up.
