Ebbs and flows . . . When I think about all I have to do, big decisions I haven't made, whether or not I can perform . . . whether or not I'll ever be 'normal' again — it all seems so overwelming and I just want to escape. Nervous, jittery and head seems cloudy. I had the tendency to get nervous but could always handle it. Something broke inside of me and I can't figure out what. Escape is not an option, I need to re-engage with my life. How do people deal with this?

I've been taking Klonopin for a short time and trying to taper off of it.

Get some good counseling. The counselor can give you some methods to get you through the more difficult times. Perhaps biofeedback, behavior modification, etc., may help too. See a professional.

It is really tough to do by yourself, I went thru that when I was first married, I have a spastic colon, and nervous bowel, I finally had to force myself to go places. Short distances at first, and then extended distances. I also had a friend that new of my anxiety and understood it, so that really helped. People don't realize what we go thru with anxiety. If your heart is racing, put your wrists under cold running water or take a cold cloth and apply it to your neck. That sometimes helps, deep breathing and letting it out slowly also helps but you might have to do this for 10 to 20 minutes. Can't stand it when your heart is pounding in your neck or you are trying to sleep and you can hear it in your ears. Sleeping with a fan on helps, muffles noices, and sounds. If it is really that bad talk with your doctor, too see if you can get something, or try talking with a counselor. Only you can do it, pills aren't the answer. If you don't get help the anxiety it will eventually go into depression. I know, been there. As far as so much to do and important decisions to make ask someone to help you a good friend or a lawyer , make a list for each day and just do what you can handle. Don't try to handle to much in one day, it makes for constant thinking during the day and when trying to sleep. But the fan trick really works. You don't need to have it blowing on you. Just so you hear the sound, and concentrate on it, and you will eventually fall asleep. Or find a good friend that is a good listener, and is willing to listen to what you have to say. As we get older, things get harder to deal with, ya think it would get easier, but it doesn't. Hope this helped in someway. Also taking short naps helps to give your body rest.

Good luck

I know it is not easy. I had the same thing and did not do anything with it and it lead me to depression and mood swing problem. Probobly people can tell you not to worry, but you are worrier, you were born a worrier and you will be worry. I would try breathing sessions, yoga, regular exercisse, helty eathing, therapy, vitamin B helps. If those do not work, meds are only way. Remember, what can hurts you more is your struguling with the mental anxiety than medication.

i would suggest alcohol, but it's a short-term problem with long-term consequences. kinda like suicide!
i also have extreme anxiety sometimes. Things that help me include chewing gum, taking deep breaths, focusing on an object in the horizon that im trying to walk towards, playing with my hair, singing a song in my head, getting lots of sleep, holding a prop in my hand to feel my comfortable (like a purse, a soda, etc)., and a sweatshirt hoodie with pockets to put my hands in. Other than that, maybe keep trying different kinds of medications. not all work the same way with every person.

I have the very same problem. I take Klonopin too, and effexor. The combo seems to help me. I see a therapist once a week too. I'm not sure how much she's helping, but, I do get things off my chest. I can certainly empathize with you. Just try to relax, close your eyes, and think of something that's peaceful in your life. I wish you good luck. Just make yourself take control. ~~~~
