Everytime I start my car and drive, I turn my air conditioner on and smell a charcoal smell coming from the vents. It smells like diesel, smog or sulfur. A very strong smell. It reminds me of smog. It's not an egg smell and I never see any smoke. Also, it's ONLY when the AC is on. What could it be?

I heard something like this on Car Talk recently. Apparently, there are things you can do to clean out the air system of your car if you take it to a reputable mechanic or detail shop.

Don't listen to Shadow he is full of crap with respect to 'crap Japanese plastics'.

It could just be mildrew accrued whilst the car was awaiting delivery. Perhaps buy a AC deodoriser at any auto store, spray it into the AC vents and hopefully that will rid the smell.

Take the car back to the dealerip because of it warrenty and have them check for the possibility of a emissions gas exhaust leak. It sounds as though it is coming in through your vents and needs to be checked right away. That is not normal behavior for a new car.

Could be mildew, but since its a 2007 I would take it back while you still a warranty and complain about it.
