I think you will know when the time is right for you and your other pet. Personally, as sad as it is watching your other dog looking for it's partner. It could end up harder watching them not get along with a new dog. But you just never know right? It could work out for the better as well.
I would suggest getting an older dog for a couple of reasons. One because they tend to calmer than puppies, which would be a relief if your dog now is older. Plus older dogs have a really hard time being adopted from shelters, and yet they have so much love to give.
Maybe you could also try introducing your dog now to other dogs? Maybe your friends have dogs they could interact with? Just make sure the other dogs are around the same energy level and so on as your own dog.
Good luck. And I am really sorry about the loss of your other dog.

If your older dog is very old and close to the end, I wouldn't introduce a new pet at all, despite the fact she is missing her friend.
A new young pet would not be a compatible match for your older dog, and adopting another senior, well, would just put you back in the same place you are now.
A new friend would not make her miss her old one less. Infact they may not even get along, and the initial acceptance of a new pet in the house (a stranger to her) will only stress her more, not relieve her longing.

Something similar happen to me too, in this case both dogs are male and the older one was always standing for the youngest whenever he was being snarl (by barking at me and putting himself between me and the other dog) I was told by the vet that the living dog must pass this period naturally, that he'll eventually will forget about his partner in moreless a week. I haven't tought on buying a new puppy while the youngest dog is alive cause it was very difficult for me to deal with 2 doggies, so I guess I'll wait to get a new while I have one of them near me.

if your other pets are still young i would say soon, because it is always good to let them get to know each other when there puppys. but because your dog is older, if you get another puppy the puppy will try to play with your older dog, and may give it a heart attack. but i am not a vet. i know how hard it is to put down a dog, my 1st dog i ever had from 2 we had to put down at 10 years old, i know how hard it can be. i hope this helps you.

i would suggest that you start off by pet sitting for a friend a couple of timesto see how your dog reacts to a new pet in the house for a few hours at first and then graduate to longer until you feel that she could handle that either that or just set up play dates with other dogs (firends with pets) because I feel if you get her someone new and she ends up going then your new dog will deal with depression. Let me know how it goes

consider this before you get another pet:make sure he does not feel like you are replacing you last dog for him. Also he let the new dog know who is boss and sometimes dog's will show great aggression toward other dogs to show them that. What you should do is have them in the same room with you sitting between them. pet the both of them, and treat them equally. Please consult with your local vet. before making any decisions.

Go to the dog shelter and adopt dog. I did when we had to put down one of our dogs. It made it alot easier on Belle (her brother was put down) they had been together all their lives.

as soon as you think you should wait, i dont think anyone should have two dogs unless they have there entire day to devote because they loose the love they used to get when they were the one and only. anyhow, if you feel up to it get an older dog and they might die together( that actually happens).
